About Me
I wish I could say that I could heal orchids and help them thrive, but my cats will eat any plant that even dreams of entering my home. I pour that love of life and connection into my friends, family, and the of course the previously mentioned cats. I value the genuine, human connection between others. In a therapeutic relationship, that realness creates a sense of support and collaboration that makes change seem more possible.
My professional background ranges from working with schizophrenia, acute addiction, relational problems, existential crisis, general anxiety, depression, and many other areas in which others struggle. I started out as a counseling student intern at a psychosocial rehabilitation program. I conducted group and individual therapy at a non-profit for people with schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses. In the 9 years that followed, I expanded my therapeutic skills and experiences at a detox facility, as a group therapist at an intensive outpatient program for those with substance use, and as a program manager at a co-occurring residential facility. I have come full circle to currently be the clinical director of that very same psychosocial rehabilitation program from my internship. Outside of that, I also see people in private practice and am an adjunct professor for counseling students in their master’s program. One of many things I’ve learned throughout my experience is that everyone deserves someone on their side, someone who hasn’t given up on them yet.
Now the fun stuff! Most days you’ll find me reading books about psychology or working on a crossword puzzle while listening to a true crime podcast. I have three beautiful male cats, named Toaster, Angus, and Ash, and will brag about them to complete strangers. Full disclosure, something that I am not proud of is what I become when I play the card game Uno. Playing Uno brings out the absolute worst in me. Suddenly everything is a personal slight and so help me if you put down the Wild Draw 4.
The twists and turns of life that brought you here to read my bio are the same topsy-turvy avenues that brought me here to write it. I’m glad you made it this far.
